Mint Branching Hammer Coral: A Vibrant Reef Gem
Add a splash of captivating colour and dynamic movement to your reef aquarium with the stunning Mint Branching Hammer coral.
Overview
The Mint Branching Hammer coral (*Fimbriaphyllia paraancora*) is a striking large-polyp stony (LPS) coral, prized for its vibrant mint-green tentacles that possess distinctive hammer or anchor-shaped tips. These polyps extend beautifully in moderate water flow, creating a mesmerizing visual display both day and night. This coral can develop long sweeper tentacles, which it uses to defend its territory, so careful placement is essential.
Care Level
Considered a moderate care coral, the Mint Branching Hammer thrives in stable reef environments. While generally adaptable, its semi-aggressive nature due to sweeper tentacles requires adequate spacing from other corals to prevent stinging.
Tank Essentials
A mature reef aquarium of at least 75 litres is recommended. Maintain stable water parameters with a pH of 8.1–8.4 and a temperature of 24–27°C. Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to encourage polyp extension without causing damage.
Diet
Primarily photosynthetic, it also benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty marine foods like mysis shrimp or specialized coral foods a few times a week.
