Superman Discosoma: Vibrant Colours for Your Reef!

Introducing the Superman Discosoma, a stunning and hardy corallimorph that brings a splash of iconic colour to any marine aquarium. Perfect for aquarists of all levels.

Overview

The Superman Discosoma, scientifically known as *Discosoma nummiforme*, is a vibrant soft coral prized for its striking blue and red hues, reminiscent of its namesake. This species features a smooth, fleshy texture and is known for its adaptability. It thrives in moderate lighting and low to moderate water flow, adding vivid colour and gentle movement to your aquarium. Its hardy nature makes it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced reef keepers.

Care Level

Beginner. The Superman Discosoma is exceptionally hardy and tolerant of various water conditions, making it ideal for new reef keepers. It is generally peaceful, though it does possess mild stinging capabilities, so provide adequate spacing from other corals.

Tank Essentials

Minimum tank size of 5 gallons (approx. 19 litres) is recommended. They prefer low to moderate water flow and moderate to low lighting; intense light can cause bleaching. Stable water parameters are key: pH 8.0-8.4, temperature 72-78°F (22-26°C), and salinity 1.023-1.025.

Diet

Primarily photosynthetic, Superman Discosomas derive most of their energy from their symbiotic zooxanthellae. Occasional feeding with small particulate foods like phytoplankton or marine snow can be beneficial but is not essential for survival.
