Vibrant Rhodactis Mushrooms for Your Aquarium
Add a splash of unique color and texture to your reef with these hardy and captivating Rhodactis mushroom corals.
Overview
Rhodactis, commonly known as Hairy Mushrooms, are a diverse group of corallimorphs prized for their unique textures, vibrant colors, and relatively easy care. These soft-bodied invertebrates lack a calcium carbonate skeleton and are characterized by their fleshy appearance, often adorned with small, hair-like tentacles that give them a fuzzy or textured look. Found in the Indo-Pacific, they display an incredible range of color morphs and patterns, making each one a distinct addition to any reef aquascape. They are known to grow quite quickly and can become territorial, so provide ample space.
Care Level
Beginner. Rhodactis mushrooms are forgiving and adaptable, making them an excellent choice for novice reef keepers. While hardy, they thrive in stable conditions and should be given adequate space from more aggressive corals due to their semi-aggressive nature.
Tank Essentials
Provide low to moderate, indirect water flow and moderate lighting (75-150 PAR recommended). Stable salinity (1.020-1.026) and temperature (75-82°F / 24-28°C) are crucial. They can be placed on live rock or the substrate.
Diet
While their symbiotic zooxanthellae provide essential nutrients through photosynthesis, Rhodactis mushrooms benefit from supplemental feeding with phytoplankton or small meaty foods 1-2 times per week.
