Acan Coral ‘Ultra’: Your Next Reef Tank Gem!

Immerse your reef in unparalleled color with the Acan Coral ‘Ultra’. These stunning LPS corals bring vibrant hues and captivating texture, making them a cornerstone for any thriving marine display.

Overview
Acan Corals, often simply called “Acans,” are a type of Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral celebrated for their incredible diversity of brilliant colors and fleshy, individual polyps. The ‘Ultra’ designation highlights specimens with exceptional and rare coloration, often showcasing fiery reds, electric blues, neon greens, and intricate patterns. They typically form encrusting or hemispherical colonies, extending their feeding tentacles at night to capture nutrients. These corals add significant visual interest and a robust, textured presence to your reef.

Care Level
Considered a beginner to moderate-level coral, the Acan ‘Ultra’ is relatively hardy and forgiving, making it a great choice for those looking to expand their LPS collection. They are semi-aggressive, capable of extending sweeper tentacles, so ensure ample spacing from other corals to prevent territorial disputes. Consistency in water parameters is key to their vibrant health.

Tank Essentials
A minimum tank size of 75 Litres is suitable for these corals. Acans thrive in stable water conditions: maintain a temperature between 24-27°C, a pH of 8.1-8.4, and a salinity of 1.025-1.026. Provide low to moderate, indirect water flow to prevent detritus buildup without damaging their fleshy polyps. Moderate lighting, around 50-150 PAR, is ideal for optimal coloration and health.

Diet
While primarily photosynthetic, Acan corals greatly benefit from supplemental target feeding. Offer small, meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, or coral pellets 1-3 times weekly. Feeding after the main lights dim encourages the strongest feeding response as their polyps extend at night.
