Rubber Soul Grape Coral: A Unique LPS Gem

Discover the captivating charm of the Rubber Soul Grape Coral, a distinctive LPS coral known for its unique texture and vibrant coloration.

Overview

The Rubber Soul Grape Coral, scientifically known as *Euphyllia cristata*, presents a truly unique appearance in the reef aquarium hobby. Its polyps are densely packed on short branches, featuring tubular tentacles with distinctive knob-like tips that give it a grape-like appearance. Colonies are typically small and compact, often showcasing a pale grey or green base with vividly colored tentacle tips in shades of yellow, purple, or gold. This coral is known for its moderate care requirements and beautiful, flowing movement in the aquarium.

Care Level

This coral is considered to have a moderate care level. It requires stable water parameters and can be somewhat sensitive to sudden changes. While generally peaceful, it possesses stinging capabilities and should be provided adequate space from other corals to prevent aggression.

Tank Essentials

A minimum tank size of 30 gallons (approximately 120 liters) is recommended for the Rubber Soul Grape Coral. It thrives in moderate, turbulent water flow and appreciates moderate to strong, yet diffused lighting (50-150 PAR). Maintain stable water parameters with a temperature of 74-83°F (23-28°C) and a salinity of 1.023-1.025.

Diet

While the Rubber Soul Grape Coral harbors symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits greatly from supplemental feeding. Offer small meaty foods or specialized coral foods 1-2 times per week when its polyps are extended.
