Overview

The Green Ultra Rhodactis mushroom (*Rhodactis inchoata*) is a captivating corallimorph known for its fleshy, dome-shaped polyps and striking green coloration, often with contrasting highlights. Its textured surface, featuring small, bubble-like vesicles or papillae, gives it a unique appearance reminiscent of cauliflower. These mushrooms are generally peaceful and can grow up to 8 cm (3 inches) in diameter, forming attractive mats or clusters in a mature reef environment. They are photosynthetic, relying on symbiotic algae within their tissues for much of their nutrition.

Care Level

Easy. Rhodactis mushrooms are a forgiving choice for beginners and experienced aquarists alike. They are relatively hardy and adapt well to stable aquarium conditions, though they are sensitive to sudden changes. While peaceful, they are considered semi-aggressive and require adequate space from other corals to prevent potential stinging.

Tank Essentials

A minimum aquarium size of 100 litres (22 gallons) is recommended. Maintain stable water parameters with a temperature of 24-27°C (75-80°F) and a pH of 8.1-8.4. They thrive in low to moderate, indirect water flow and low to moderate lighting (75-150 PAR), preferring shaded areas.

Diet

Primarily photosynthetic, they derive most nutrients from their symbiotic zooxanthellae. Supplemental feeding with micro-plankton or small invertebrate foods can enhance growth and coloration, but is not strictly required.
