Red Hornet Zoanthids: Captivating Color for Your Reef!
Introducing the Red Hornet Zoanthid, a stunning reef inhabitant known for its vibrant coloration and easy care, perfect for adding a pop of color to any marine aquarium.
Overview
The Red Hornet Zoanthid, often called a “sea mat” due to its growth habit, displays a striking pattern of deep purple faces with vibrant red rings and alternating orange/red frills. Some specimens may show a more prominent white mouth. These zoanthids are highly sought after for their intense colors, which are particularly vibrant under blue or actinic lighting, creating a captivating display in your reef tank. They are colonial polyps that grow in interconnected mats and can spread to form dense colonies.
Care Level
Easy. Red Hornets are known for their hardiness and adaptability, making them an excellent choice for beginner aquarists. They are peaceful but can spread, so provide ample space.
Tank Essentials
A minimum tank size of 100 litres (22 gal) is recommended. Maintain stable water parameters: a pH range of 8.1-8.4, salinity of 1.024-1.026, and a temperature of 24-27°C (75-80°F).
Diet
Primarily photosynthetic, Red Hornets benefit from occasional supplemental feedings of finely powdered coral foods, zooplankton, or amino acids to enhance growth and coloration.
