Overview

The Scissortail Dartfish (*Ptereleotris evides*) is a slender, torpedo-shaped marine fish renowned for its distinctive appearance. Its body transitions from a pale bluish-grey head to a striking black or purplish-black posterior, culminating in a forked, “scissor-like” caudal fin with dark lobes and a translucent center. These active, peaceful fish are often seen hovering mid-water, gracefully darting to feed on plankton, and retreating quickly to their secure hiding spots when startled.
