Bimac Anthias: A Jewel for Your Reef Aquarium
Add a splash of vibrant color and dynamic movement to your marine display with the stunning Bimac Anthias. These active, schooling beauties are a captivating addition for the experienced aquarist.
Overview
The Bimac Anthias (*Pseudanthias bimaculatus*) exhibits striking sexual dimorphism. Males boast a reddish body with jagged pink lines, often highlighted with yellow on fins and head, plus characteristic spots on the dorsal fin. Females present a beautiful solid pink hue with bright yellow fins and tail. They are graceful, active swimmers, adding constant motion to the mid-water column.
Care Level
Considered moderately difficult to expert, the Bimac Anthias thrives in established reef environments. They are peaceful towards most tankmates but can be aggressive towards other male anthias unless in a very large system. Provide a group of females with one male for best results, or keep a single specimen in smaller tanks.
Tank Essentials
A minimum 475 L (125 gallon) aquarium is recommended for a single or pair, with significantly larger tanks needed for groups. Maintain stable water parameters: pH 8.1–8.4, temperature 24–27°C. Provide ample live rock for hiding spots and strong water flow, mimicking their natural deep reef habitat. Ensure a tight-fitting lid due to their jumping tendency.
Diet
As carnivorous zooplankton feeders, Bimac Anthias require multiple small feedings daily. Offer a varied diet of frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and other finely chopped meaty foods to maintain their health and vibrant coloration.
