Description

The research provided sufficient information for all required fields. I will now compile the product description.

**Common Name:** Keyhole Angelfish (also Black Angelfish, Whitespot Angelfish, Puller Angelfish, Tibicen Angelfish, Melas Angelfish) I will use “Keyhole Angelfish” as the primary common name.
**Appearance:** Deep dark blue to almost black body with a distinctive white vertical stripe or keyhole-shaped blotch on the flanks. The pelvic and anal fins are yellow, often with a blue border on the dorsal and caudal fins. Max length up to 19 cm (7.5 inches). Juveniles have a more pronounced white stripe that changes to a variable blotch with age.
**Behaviour:** Semi-aggressive and territorial, especially towards conspecifics and other dwarf angelfish. Best kept solitary or in a very large tank with a mated pair/harem (if introduced carefully). Initially shy, requires hiding places. Active swimmers, graze on algae from rocks. Protogynous hermaphrodites (female to male sex change).
**Care Level:** Moderate. Hardy species.
**Tank Essentials:** Minimum 400 L (106 gallons) for a single specimen. Some sources state 55-70 gallons (208-265 L) but generally agree larger is better due to temperament. Plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing. Mature tank (at least 6 months old) preferable.
**Water Parameters:**
* Temperature: 22-29°C (72-82°F) (Will use 23-28°C for a tighter, common range)
* pH: 8.0-8.5 or 8.1-8.4 (Will use 8.1-8.4)
* Salinity/SG: 1.020-1.027 (Will use 1.023-1.025 for a typical range)
**Diet:** Omnivore. Feeds mainly on algae, microalgae, detritus, and small invertebrates in the wild. In aquarium: marine algae, Spirulina, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, other meaty items. Needs varied diet. Feed 2-3 times daily. Graze on live rock.
**Origin:** Indo-Pacific region (Eastern Indian Ocean to Fiji, north to southern Japan, south to Australia/Lord Howe Island).
**Lifespan:** Up to 10 years in captivity, 6 years in the wild. Will use “up to 10 years”.
**Swimming Zone:** Often grazes on rocks near the bottom or mid-depth. Active swimmer. Will specify “Mid to Bottom”.
**Reef Compatibility:** “Not reef safe”, “Reef safe with caution”, “May nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles, especially if underfed”. It is a risk. I will state “With Caution” and explain.

Keyhole Angelfish: Striking Beauty for Your Marine Tank

Add a touch of dramatic elegance to your saltwater aquarium with the captivating Keyhole Angelfish. Its bold coloration and active nature make it a compelling centerpiece.

Overview

The Keyhole Angelfish (*Centropyge tibicen*) boasts a deep, dark blue to almost black body, strikingly contrasted by a distinctive white keyhole-shaped blotch on its flanks. Its pelvic and anal fins are a vibrant yellow, often complemented by a subtle blue margin on the dorsal and caudal fins. Growing up to 19 cm, this active swimmer constantly explores live rock for grazing opportunities, making it a dynamic addition to your display.

Care Level

Considered a moderate care level species, the Keyhole Angelfish is semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially towards other dwarf angelfish or similarly shaped tank mates. It is best kept as a solitary specimen in most home aquariums. While initially shy, it becomes bolder once accustomed to its environment and can coexist with dissimilar, peaceful to semi-aggressive fish.

Tank Essentials

A mature aquarium of at least 400 litres (106 gallons) is recommended for a single Keyhole Angelfish, providing ample space and stability. Your setup should include abundant live rock with numerous hiding places and open swimming areas. Stable water parameters are crucial, with temperatures between 23-28°C and a pH range of 8.1-8.4.

Diet

As an omnivore, the Keyhole Angelfish thrives on a varied diet rich in marine algae and meaty foods. Supplement its natural grazing on live rock with Spirulina-based flakes, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other frozen meaty items. Feeding 2-3 times daily ensures optimal health and coloration.
