Description
Captivating Colt Corals for Your Aquarium
Add vibrant, undulating movement and unique texture to your reef with these easy-to-care-for soft corals.
Overview
Cladiella spp., commonly known as Colt Corals or Finger Leather Corals, originate from the Indo-Pacific region. These soft corals are characterized by their fleshy, finger-like lobes that branch outwards and upwards. Their polyps, often a contrasting color to the main body, give the colony a fluffy appearance when extended. They are known for their mucus production, which aids in their defense and cleaning, and their unique slimy texture.
Care Level
Beginner-friendly, Cladiella spp. are hardy and adaptable, making them a great choice for new reef keepers. While generally peaceful, they can be semi-aggressive in their growth rate and should be given ample space.
Tank Essentials
Provide moderate to strong, intermittent water flow and moderate to high lighting. A minimum tank size of approximately 200 litres (50 gallons) is recommended. Stable water parameters are crucial, with a pH of 8.0-8.4 and a temperature of 22-27°C (72-82°F).
Diet
Cladiella corals are photosynthetic, deriving energy from symbiotic zooxanthellae algae. They also benefit from supplemental feedings of phytoplankton or microplankton.
