Overview

The Red Favia coral, often referred to as brain or moon coral, is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its vibrant red coloration and intricate, brain-like patterns. While historically classified under the *Favia* genus, many Indo-Pacific species are now placed in genera like *Dipsastraea* and *Goniastrea*, though they are still commonly sold and cared for under the Favia name. Their unique appearance and relatively easy care make them a favourite for adding visual depth and character to reef aquascapes.

They thrive in stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-28°C (75-82°F), a pH of 8.1-8.4, and salinity between 1.024-1.026 SG. Moderate, indirect water flow and low to moderate lighting (100-150 PAR) are ideal.

Diet

While Favia corals derive significant nutrients from their symbiotic zooxanthellae, they benefit from supplemental feedings 2-3 times per week with micro-plankton, mysis shrimp, or finely chopped meaty foods.
