Overview

The Fungia coral, or Plate Coral, is a solitary, free-living large polyp stony (LPS) coral renowned for its striking disc-like shape and vibrant colors, ranging from deep reds and oranges to brilliant yellows and greens. Juveniles may attach to surfaces, but adults detach and roam the sandy substrate of their natural reef habitat. These corals possess a remarkable ability to move by inflating their tissues, allowing them to shift position to optimize light exposure and avoid irritants. Diet

Fungia corals obtain nutrition through photosynthesis via their symbiotic zooxanthellae. However, they also benefit greatly from supplemental feeding. Offer targeted meals of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or other small meaty foods one to two times per week to encourage vibrant coloration and growth.
