Neon Green Fungia: A Vibrant Addition to Your Reef!
Add a splash of brilliant colour and unique texture to your aquarium with this stunning Neon Green Fungia Plate Coral.
Overview
The Neon Green Fungia, scientifically known as *Fungia fungites*, is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral renowned for its flat, disc-like shape and captivating vibrant green coloration. These solitary corals are free-living, meaning they do not attach to the substrate and can slowly move across the aquarium floor to find optimal conditions. In their natural habitat within the Indo-Pacific, they inhabit sandy or rubble-covered reef slopes, basking in moderate lighting and gentle water flow. Their ability to inflate their tissues allows them to capture food particles and adjust their position for light absorption.
Care Level
Beginner to Intermediate. While generally hardy, Fungia corals appreciate stable water parameters. They are not overly sensitive but sudden swings in temperature, salinity, or pH can cause stress. They are generally peaceful but can extend their feeding tentacles at night, so provide adequate space from neighboring corals.
Tank Essentials
A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended for a single specimen. They thrive in stable marine conditions with a temperature range of 75-80°F (24-27°C) and a pH of 7.8-8.4. Moderate lighting (80-150 PAR) and low to moderate water flow are ideal.
Diet
Fungia corals are primarily photosynthetic, deriving energy from their symbiotic zooxanthellae. However, they benefit greatly from supplemental feeding of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp, especially in the evening when their feeding tentacles are extended.
