Overview

The Holy Banana coral, scientifically known as *Fimbriaphyllia cristata*, is a captivating Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral. It is characterized by its compact polyps and shorter tentacles compared to Torch corals, often featuring vibrant yellow stems and blue tips, with some variants showcasing a neon green base. This branching coral adds unique movement and color to any reef aquarium. While historically classified under *Euphyllia*, recent studies have reclassified it into the *Fimbriaphyllia* genus.

Care Level

Beginner to Intermediate. The Holy Banana coral is relatively hardy once established and can tolerate minor fluctuations in water parameters. It is less aggressive than some other LPS corals but still requires adequate space to prevent stinging its neighbors.

Tank Essentials

A minimum tank size of 100 litres (26 gallons) is recommended. Maintain stable water parameters with moderate, indirect flow and moderate to high lighting (80–150 PAR). Ideal water parameters include a pH of 7.8–8.4, salinity of 1.024–1.026, and a temperature range of 24–26°C (75–79°F).

Diet

Primarily photosynthetic, the Holy Banana coral benefits from supplemental feeding 2-3 times weekly with enriched brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or specialized LPS coral foods, especially at night when tentacles are extended.
